UAE Announces Two-Month Grace Period to Waive Residence Visa Fines Starting September 1

The UAE authorities have announced a two-month grace period starting September 1 for people who have violated residence visa rules. During this time, you can either fix your visa issues or leave the country without paying any fines.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) said this is a chance for people to get their status in order according to the law, showing the UAE’s values of kindness and understanding.

It’s important to note that this scheme does not apply to tourist visa violators.

Residence Visa Regulations

In the UAE, the length of a residence visa depends on the type and sponsor. Sponsored visas can be valid for 1, 2, or 3 years, while self-sponsored visas can last up to 5 or 10 years.

If you don’t leave the country or renew your visa before it expires, you will have to pay fines. Since 2023, the fine for overstaying has been set at Dh50 per day, down from Dh100.

Expats have up to maximum six months to renew their visas after their current one expires or is canceled.
